Best Crispy Halal Hot Dog Cheese Bread Rolls - A Crowd-Pleasing Snack!

Introduction

has been my go-to party trick since I discovered it during Ramadan last year. Oh my goodness, the way these rolls come out of the hot oil - golden-brown and crackling with cheese trying to escape! I serve these at literally every gathering now (probably too often, if you ask my husband). The combo of halal hot dogs, melty cheese, and that crispy bread coating is just... well, it's basically impossible to eat just one. Trust me, your guests will be asking for the recipe!

Timing

  • Prep time: 25 minutes
  • Cook time: 15 minutes
  • Total time: 40 minutes

Ingredients

  • 8 slices white bread, crusts removed (sourdough works amazing too!)
  • 4 halal beef hot dogs, cut in half lengthwise
  • 4 slices American cheese (or cheddar - but American melts better tbh)
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (I use Panko for extra crunch)
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • Salt to taste

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Prep the Bread

Flatten each bread slice with a rolling pin - like, really flatten it! I learned the hard way that if you don't get them thin enough, they'll puff up way too much when frying. The bread should be almost see-through but not torn.

Step 2: Assemble the Rolls

Place a half hot dog and a quarter slice of cheese on each flattened bread piece. Roll them up super tight - kinda like making sushi? But way easier lol. Pinch the edges to seal (a bit of water helps if they're being stubborn).

Step 3: Coating Station

Set up your dipping station: flour, beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs in separate shallow dishes. Season the flour with garlic powder and pepper - this makes SUCH a difference! Dip each roll first in flour, then egg, then breadcrumbs. Double-coat if you're feeling extra!

Step 4: The Frying Part

Heat oil to 350°F (180°C) - I use a candy thermometer but honestly, drop a breadcrumb in and if it sizzles right away, you're good. Fry in batches (don't crowd the pan!) for about 2-3 minutes until they're this perfect golden brown color that'll make your mouth water.

Healthier Alternatives

Look, these aren't exactly health food but you can make them slightly better! Try air-frying at 375°F for 8-10 minutes (spray with oil first).  Best Crispy Halal Hot Dog Cheese Bread Rolls: Easy Deep-Fried Snack RecipeFor gluten-free, use GF bread and breadcrumbs - I've tested this for my celiac
