Better than an Italian restaurant! Prepare this delicious meatball dinner at home!

That cheese pull just stopped your scroll. Don't lie.

Because there are some things in this world that don't need an explanation. They don't need a menu description. They don't need a food critic

This comforting Cheesy Italian Meatball and Mashed Potato Bake is a hearty meal perfect for a cozy dinner. Below are the details to recreate this dish at home.

Ingredients

For the Meatballs:

1 lb ground beef (or a blend of beef and pork/sausage)

1 egg

1/2 cup breadcrumbs (soaked in a little milk for extra softness)

2 cloves garlic, minced

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Salt, pepper, dried oregano, and dried parsley to taste

For the Base & Topping:

4 cups creamy mashed potatoes (prepared with butter and milk)

1.5–2 cups high-quality marinara sauce

1.5 cups shredded mozzarella or fontina cheese

Preparation Instructions

1. Prepare the Mashed Potatoes: Boil your potatoes until tender, then mash them thoroughly with butter and milk until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and pepper to your preference. Spread this mixture as an even base layer in a greased baking dish.

2. Make the Meatballs: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground meat, egg, breadcrumbs, minced garlic, Parmesan, and herbs. Gently mix until combined, then shape into golf ball-sized portions.

3. Sear the Meatballs: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the meatballs on all sides for about 6–8 minutes. They do not need to be cooked completely through at this stage, as they will finish in the oven.

4. Assemble the Dish: Place the browned meatballs evenly over the top of the layer of mashed potatoes. Pour the marinara sauce over the meatballs and sprinkle the entire dish generously with the shredded mozzarella or fontina cheese.

5. Bake: Place the dish into a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C). Bake for 20–30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, golden, and bubbling.

Tips for Success

Leftovers: This is a perfect way to use up leftover mashed potatoes from a previous meal.

Flavor Boost: If you want to balance the acidity of your marinara sauce, add a small spoonful of honey to the sauce before pouring it over the meatballs.

Extra Cheese: For an even richer result, mix some extra Parmesan directly into your mashed potatoes before spreading them into the baking dish.
